"Phi Kap", "The Skulls" - Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity

Everything Phi Kappa Sigma stands for comes from our Ritual and our Purpose and Principles. Our purpose is stated in The Objects of Phi Kappa Sigma which serves as our Fraternity Mission Statement.

From Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution and Acts of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity:

"The Objects of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity shall be the promotion of good fellowship and the cultivation of the social virtues among our members; the protection of just rights and the advancement of the best interests, present and future, individual and collective, of all those who shall be associated together as members of this fraternity; the encouragement of good scholarship and the breadth of training for our members; and cooperation in the educational and cultural programs of institutions of higher education in which our chapters are located."

Here is how our Purpose (Mission Statement) breaks down into real world applications.

The promotion of good fellowship

X       Companionship, Brotherhood

X       We have over 50 active Chapters and Colonies of gentlemen throughout the U.S. and Canada, encompassing over 1,500 undergraduates and 40,000 living alumni throughout the world.

The cultivation of the social virtues among its members

X       Refinement of examples of moral excellence relating to matters of human welfare among its members, e.g. Gentlemanly conduct, volunteering, community service, philanthropy, etc.

X       Our national philanthropy, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America, has benefited from a continued relationship with our fraternity and its Chapters, who donate thousands of dollars each year to treatment and research.

The protection of the just rights and the advancement of the best interests, present and future, individual and collective, of all those who shall be associated together as members of the Fraternity

X       "Once a Phi Kap, Always a Phi Kap" and "Stellus Aequus Durando"

X       We are the only fraternity that had its undergraduates vote to adopt a substance-free housing policy (at the 90th Grand Chapter in Philadelphia, PA, in 2000 to "Return to our Founding Principles")

The encouragement of good scholarship and breadth of training for its members

X       Pursuit of knowledge in academics and life

X       The Phi Kappa Sigma Foundation gives out more scholarship dollars per undergraduate member than any other fraternity operating in North America

X       The annual "Men of Honor Institute" has been making an enormously positive impact within our members and our Chapters. Our regional leadership conferences, known as "Skull Sessions", provide a way for Chapters to learn from each other. We have also developed a new "Men of Honor Initiative" that ties all of our programs together and develops our members from.

And cooperation in the educational and cultural programs of institutions of higher education in which chapters are located

X       Having a positive impact and being an asset to the school.

X       All of our Chapters have members involved in other organizations on campus and that hold leadership positions within those organizations.
