Chapter Awards

Chapter Excellence Award is awarded to chapters that have become well-balanced in all areas of Fraternity life. They must score a 100% on Tier 1 of the yearly Mitchell Chapter Standards.

Distinguished Chapter Award is awarded to well-balanced chapters that excel in scholastics, athletics, university and community relations, alumni affairs, and Chapter operations. They must score a 100% on Tier 1, as well as gain points on Tiers 2 and 3 of the yearly Mitchell Chapter Standards.

Carroll K. Simons Outstanding Chapter Award was named on behalf of past Grand Alpha Carroll K. Simons (IIT 1932). This award is given to only the best well-rounded Chapters that establish an excellent record in all Chapter operations. They must score a 100% on Tier 1, as well as gain a significant amount of point on Tiers 2 and 3 of the yearly Mitchell Chapter Standards.

The Founder’s Cup is awarded to only one Chapter who exhibits the best record in overall Chapter Operations over a two year period based on highest cumulative Mitchell Chapter Standards from the two previous years prior to Grand Chapter. In addition, Chapters must have won a Carroll K. Simons Outstanding Chapter Award or a Distinguished Chapter Award in each of the two previous years prior to Grand Chapter to be eligible.

The J. Orvis Keller Scholarship Award is awarded to the Chapter that achieves the highest scholastic average of all the Chapters in the fraternity.

The Arthur M. Jens Scholarship Award is awarded to the Chapter which attained the greatest academic improvement over the preceding year. Therefore, the Chapters must document their last two complete academic years.

Dr. Ghery D. Pettit Scholarship Award is awarded to any Chapter of the Fraternity that achieves the highest scholastic rank among fraternities at its host institution, for either an academic term or year. Certification is required.

Community Service Award is given to those Chapters who perform above the minimum requirement of 16 community hours per man, and at least one of the Chapter’s projects must be an ongoing, year-long project. Chapters should strive to at least sponsor one event with our Fraternity’s philanthropy, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Philanthropy Award is given to those Chapters who excel in their philanthropic activities. The Chapters who obtain the most donated/raised amount of money through philanthropic events. At least one of the Chapter’s projects must be a fundraiser for our Fraternity’s philanthropy, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Chapter Newsletter Award is given to the Chapters whose publications are judged to be superior by the MCS Awards Committee. The Criteria includes layout, design, and quality of content.

Hart Newsletter Award is given to the Chapter or Undergraduate that writes the best article printed in the Fraternity’s newsletter, the Maltese Cross.

Alpha Omega Song Award is awarded to the Chapter that submits a recording, lyrics, and music of the best new Phi Kap song. This award was presented to the Fraternity by the Alpha Omega Chapter (British Columbia)

Recruitment Excellence is given to the Chapter that is recognized for the highest retention rate, the highest percentage of chapter membership growth for an academic year, and largest number of initiates for an academic year.

Chapter Website Award is given to the Chapter who has a website with an innovative, creative, user-friendly interface, appropriate and current content, and that is easy to navigate and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
